The practice of drug design as a discipline at the biological chemistry
interface. The topics covered in this course include the synthesis &
purification of drug-like molecules; proof of structure; nomenclature;
intellectual property; drug likeness; hit discovery and the hit-to-lead
transition; the interpretation of the biological data of drug interaction
with enzymes, receptors, and ion channels; the physical organic principles
governing the thermodynamics of drug binding to macromolecules;
structure-activity relationships; and the pharmacology of the adsorption,
disposition, metabolism, excretion, and safety of drugs.
