Research Interests

I am currently a member of Bradley Smith's laboratory in which I synthesize optical fluorescent probes for the detection of diseases.  At the present time I am working with squaraine-rotaxane dyes for imaging cancer tumors in vitro and in vivo.  SR probes exhibit strong photo-stability and chemical stability that makes them an ideal imaging agent.  They are extremely bright near infrared dyes, which is optimal for optical imaging in biological systems.  The SR scaffold allows for the construction of multivalent and multifunctional probes that can be tailored for a specific imaging target.
